The Harper Company used the Soff-Cut system on the first ever warranty
work implemented by the Kentucky DOT - a 12 mile, six lane stretch
on I-75 and I-275.
According to Jim Thomas, Vice President of Operations
for The Harper Company, "The decision to use Soff-Cut was driven
by cost and risk reduction. With the Soff-Cut process, we do not
need a water truck and use less labor and less time to cut the same
amount
of joints. We would normally have two wet-cut saws running in each
direction and a washout man behind them washing the joints. With
Soff-Cut, two operators saw up and then they blow the dust off the
slab with
a leaf blower. Because this is warranty work and we own the pavement
for ten years, reducing risk was a major factor in choosing the Soff-Cut
System."
Developing the warranty specifications is new to the
Highway Department. They had input from the industry that included
the use of the Soff-Cut system.
We jumped at the opportunity to use the Soff-Cut system because this pavement
is ours for ten years!" |
